Geschmack India was started from a feeling many Indians in Europe know very well: the sudden craving for a familiar taste from home.
A bowl of idli sambar from Tamil Nadu, the comfort of meen curry from Kerala, the richness of Bisi Bele Bath from Karnataka, the aroma of Hyderabadi biryani, the simplicity of Mudda Pappu from Andhra Pradesh, the street-food happiness of Pav Bhaji from Maharashtra, the lightness of Poha from Indore, the warmth of naan and roti from Delhi, and the bold flavours of Tambda Rassa and Pandhra Rassa from Kolhapur – these are not just dishes. We are Indians by birth, Austrians by home, and food lovers by heart.
After living in Austria for more than a decade, especially in the beautiful Styrian region, our daily food style has stayed deeply connected to India. Europe changed many things in our life, but it never changed the way we love Indian food.
That connection became the reason for Geschmack India.
Who we are
We understand the Indian community in Austria because we live the same life.
We know what it feels like to search for the right rice, the right masala, the right dal, the right pickle, the right atta, the right tea, or that one missing ingredient that makes a dish finally taste like home.
We have travelled across India, from South to North, tasting different regional cuisines and learning how every state has its own food identity. Indian food is not one flavour. It is thousands of flavours, memories, languages, festivals, homes, and traditions.
That is why Geschmack India is not just another online grocery store. It is created with real Indian food experience, real migration experience, and real understanding of what families, students, working professionals, and food lovers in Austria need.

Our history
Before starting Geschmack India, we tried everything many customers still try today.
We searched for Indian ingredients in local European supermarkets. Sometimes we found something similar, but not always the real ingredient needed for an authentic Indian recipe.
We tried sourcing products directly from India. The quality and taste were often fantastic, but it was not always practical, regular, or affordable for everyday needs.
We also purchased from Indian grocery stores across Europe. Availability was better, but pricing was often high because of import costs, supply chain limitations, and limited competition.
That experience made one thing very clear: the Indian community in Europe needs more reliable, fairly priced, and community-focused Indian grocery options.
Geschmack India was born from that need.
We believe that when more responsible shops participate in the Indian grocery supply chain, the availability improves and prices can become more balanced over time. This benefits everyone — students, individuals, families, restaurants, Indian households, and also Austrian and European customers who love Indian cooking, spices, snacks, and culture.

We continuously work on sourcing products in a smarter and more optimized way. Import conditions, trade agreements, transport costs, and geopolitical situations can change, but our commitment stays the same: we will keep trying to bring the right Indian products to Austria with better availability, trusted quality, and fair value.
